Help write the Democratic Party's Platform in NYC!
Mon Jul 28, 2008 at 06:24:18 AM PDT
Not a real diary, but an important announcement. Are you in New York City? Do you want the DNC to include your ideas in the Democratic platform? Can you write quickly?
A friend just sent me this:
Obama 2008, the DNC and the New York Democratic Lawyers Council invite YOU to help write the Democratic Party's Platform
July 24, 2008
Join us and help write the next chapter in the history of the Democratic Party.
To develop this year's Democratic Platform, the Obama campaign together with the Democratic National Committee is reaching out to people all across the country to talk about which issues are most important to them and what should be at the heart of the Democratic platform for change.
Join us next week as we come together to focus on issues of human right, civil rights and governance.

Who do they think they are?

Last evening I went to a memorial service for a friend -- a 44 year old woman with a loving husband and two small children, one of whom has type 1 diabetes. She died of a brain tumor just three months after diagnosis.
As I do every few weeks, yesterday morning I went with my son to his appointment at a children's cancer and hematology clinic, where we spent the day hanging out with kids with cancer, leukemia, sickle cell and other diseases, and their families.
Another young friend died of pancreatic cancer on May 24, leaving his wonderful wife and their lovely 12 year old daughter behind.
Carnacki did a wonderful but terrifying Cancer Roll Call diary back on March 28 and we learned that virtually everyone at Daily Kos has been touched by cancer personally, often intimately.
Can you guess where I'm going with this?
I remember Kent State

In light of the recent events at Virginia Tech, I hesitated for a bit before posting this diary, but the shootings at Kent State University were a defining moment, both in our history and in my life, and so they deserve to be remembered. I apologize if the diary brings additional pain to anyone.
update: kestrel9000's diary has an important historical and musical perspective on the events.
