David Gregory - Republican Hitman?

Thu Mar 20, 2008 at 04:58:33 PM PDT

The Race to the White House Press release states:

"Race for the White House with David Gregory" will feature reports from MSNBC and NBC News correspondents around the country with the latest breaking political news and in-depth analysis of the campaigns.

The operative words to me are "IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS" and "CAMPAIGNS"....

Is this what Gregory is doing?

Follow me .....

I actually continued watching this show after Tweety to see/hear Rachel Maddow kick Joe's butt - as she had the past few shows.... What happened today was that she wasn't there (did Joe object???)!  Replaced with Dee Dee Myers.

Today's show consisted of:

  1. Gregory dubbing the Repub wingnut produced crass video mish-mash of Wright, Michelle Obama as "viral",
  1. Obama's "boneheaded" comment bringing in his grandmother (typical white woman),
  1. Obama's problems with Florida and Michigan - and what a huge problem that will be in November.

A total of 35 minutes of negativity, 5 minutes of somewhat positive coverage (tantamount to CYA, just in case Obama  gets over Wright, grandmother, race), 1 minutes of Cheney, 1 minute of McCain (all positive - climate change, London meeting with Brown etc) and then, yes another 3 minute wrap-up of Obama-negatives how he will have to bear the Wright cross (Dee Dee Myers), Joe Scarborough (bad headlines tomorrow morning - at least till next week).... the rest was advertising (approx 15 minutes).

Ron Brownstein ex-LA Times now Atlantic Media and Eugene Robinson, WAPO provided some objective and pro-Obama opinions.

Okay, Obama hasn't had a spectacular two weeks - but this looks like media sharks circling struggling prey.

Given MSNBC's objectives of changing Tucker Carlson, all they have achieved is a show that aggregates all the sensational news of the day - it's the same thing discussed on Morning Joe and later on Dan Abrams show. Nothing in-depth, no other campaign discussed.

A better name for the show is - "The Obama-bashing Happy Hour with David Gregory"

Thanks David - good hit-job today... your show yesterday was no better.  I'm not sure you're going to keep me hooked to your show unless you incorporate some balance and objectivity.  Stay with me here, we are trying to turn the page on politics in this country - if you fail to realize this and not change your game too, you may need to go back to concentrating on your day job at the White House - soon.

Thanks MNNBC for swapping one loser's show with another.

I didn't see Gregory's show because I was too busy watching Lou Dobbs and literally screaming at my TV. It was awful--just a relentless assault, full of his usual pontificating, race-baiting, and appeals to prejudice. All balance out of course by panelists like Robert Zimmerman, a major Clinton supporter.

What's happening in the media is just sickening.

The guy comes across totally unhinged... what scares me is that he has a following of the unhinged.

Tucker Carlson had the excuse that he wasn't very bright, and clearly led a sheltered childhood, what with all those bullies giving him wedgies till his mom started home schooling.

But David Gregory at least seems to have a brain rattling around somewhere inside that big head. So he has no excuse for being such a brainless conduit for Republican slime.

and will serve to make us more ignorant, despite D. Gregory's once lofty aspirations as a crack White House reporter.

He will continue to have the likes of Joe Scarborough on who casually calls for the torture of those daring to call for an investigation of 9/11, for example.

about this show.  Despite his Imus ass kissing I thought Gregory had some objectivity.  His relentless playing of the Wright video has proved me wrong.  I'm ashamed of him.  I hope he's ashamed of himself.

  •  What do you expect? (0+ / 0-)

He's no worse than any other modern day media meathead; dazzled by his own cleverness and utterly bereft of any principle since objectivity was stricken from the journalist's code of ethics (in favor of the amendment to christen any story about blonde-women "breaking news")

Gregory used most of his program today to rehash the Wright thing...again...despite the real news of war and economy, the real issues of health care and FISA.

Obama was right. The United States can talk about crap this time, or talk about real issues. Which has MSNBC chosen? I think it's obvious.

I am absolutely sick of this.  Seriously, what the hell is wrong with Tim Russert?  I don't get why so many people here hate him.  And he looks NOTHING like Tweety, he looks like an owl.

    Republican hitman?

    Idiotic.

David Gregory was the ONLY White House correspondent asking tough questions BEFORE Hurricane Katrina and the tide started to turn against the Bush Administration.

David Gregory has no dog in the fight.

He's asking hard questions.  That's what he does.  I hate the kind of attention Obama is getting right now, but just because it's unfavorable doesn't mean I'm going to cry foul.

You have to have a longer memory than one week.

You have to look at a pattern.

David Gregory has no pattern of being "anti-Democrat" or "anti-Obama".

    •  Yes I am. (0+ / 0-)

My argument is the amount of time he has spent on Obama since his show started on Monday.   There are other issues too - and if he is supposed to provide in-depth analysis of all the campaigns - in fairness to all the campaigns say something about the other campaigns - okay with everything happening to Obama - give him 50% of air time - give at least 25% each to Clinton and McCain.

But a 95-5 split is inappropriate.
